The conference aims to examine dynastic changes’ processes in all historical moments and primarily to scrutinize ways of legitimating new dynasties or rulers in every part of the world. This theme, though obviously connected to political, institutional and legal studies, also allows participants to look at a wide range of topics including court studies, women’s and gender studies, especially by the examination of family structures and connections. Other possibilities include analyzing the transmitted memory of those processes in historiography, literature or other forms of art.

Annual deadline for submissions: September 30th

Working languages: Portuguese, English, French, Spanish, Italian and German

As a peer-reviewed scholarly journal, CADMO publishes original studies, findings and relevant “state of the art” essays on Ancient History and the study of Ancient cultures. It welcomes contributions related to the Ancient Near-Eastern World (Egypt, Mesopotamia, Persia, Syro-Palestinian area and Anatolia) and to the Classical World (Greece, Rome and the Ancient Mediterranean, including Late Antiquity). Studies on the reception of Antiquity and its cultural productions as well as submissions focusing on other Ancient societies (such as the Indian, Asian or Mesoamerican cultures) are also considered. Critical reviews of recently published works and relevant notes and news on the aforementioned subjects are accepted.

Ao longo dos séculos XII e XIII, uma ideia forte percorreu a Europa: organizar expedições militares destinadas a arrancar das mãos dos muçulmanos os lugares onde viveu e morreu Jesus Cristo. Essas campanhas, mais tarde conhecidas por Cruzadas, marcaram também o início do expansionismo europeu, fenómeno que viria a conhecer o seu apogeu mais tarde.
